The No. 4-ranked Viterbo University volleyball team recorded a sweep Friday night in conference play at Valley City State University.
The V-Hawks won their 30th straight match with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-20 win over the Vikings.
Valley City State drops to 8-20 overall and 4-8 in conference play. Viterbo improves to 33-2 overall and 13-0 in the North Star Athletic Association.
Sierra Skow had 12 kills for Viterbo, which played without top hitter Natalie Geidel. Sara Biermaier added 10 kills in the victory.
Viterbo hit .480 in the first game as they opened up a 1-0 lead. The Vikings played a strong game two and held a 22-21 lead before Viterbo scored the final four points – including three kills from Biermaier.
VCSU stayed close throughout game three and trailed just 20-19 late, but Viterbo scored five of the final six points to put the match away.
Megan Johnson had 11 kills to lead Valley City's attack, and Clarissa Olson added seven kills. Taylor Balkan posted a team-high 28 assists, and Jaycee George had 16 digs. Nicolette Bloomer served up two aces.
VCSU hit just .073 as a team and had four blocks. Viterbo hit .225 and had six blocks in the win.
Up next: Valley City State hosts Waldorf University at 3 p.m. Saturday. It is VCSU's Senior Day. Viterbo University plays at Mayville State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
