BROOKINGS, S.D. The Valley City State track & field team had two conference champions and eight All Conference performances Saturday during the NSAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Seri Geisler (shot put) and Dennis Gonzalez (3,000 meters) each won individual conference titles and set meet records to pace the strong Viking performance. As a team, both the men and women finished fifth place out of six teams.

Geisler won her second straight indoor shot put title, breaking her own school and conference record with a personal-best toss of 13.39 meters (43-11 /14) on Saturday. Geisler will compete in the shot put at the NAIA Indoor Championships, March 2-4. Saturday's throw ranks her 16th in the country entering nationals.

On the men's side, Gonzalez earned a conference title in the 3,000 meters. He entered the meet with the top time in the NSAA and lived up to the billing Saturday, crossing the line in a time of 9:10.80, which is a new meet record by almost five seconds. Gonzalez also earned All Conference in the mile run by finishing in third place.

All Conference went to the Top 3 in individual events and the Top 2 relay teams. VCSU had four women and four men earn All Conference. The Vikings had 19 place-winning performances (Top 6) and set 32 new career or season bests at the meet.

"I do not believe that I can adequately convey how truly proud I am of these student-athletes today," said VCSU head coach Chris Johnson. "The bright lights of the conference meet are not always easy to deal with but this team truly stepped up to the plate today and performed at the highest level. We pride ourselves on the preparations we make to compete at the conference meet and it showed today. What an incredible all-around experience and our best meet of the year to date."

Outside of Geisler and Gonzalez's meet records, VCSU athletes also set another pair of school records. Keauna Hansen broke her own record from earlier this year with a time of 1:01.64 in the 400 Meter Dash, and Macy Dimler set a new record with a time of 9.89 in the 60 meter hurdles.

Megan Johnson had a strong day with a pair of All Conference performances, placing second in the long jump and third in the high jump. She also took fourth in the triple jump as part of a busy day. Macy Dimler had a strong race in the 60-meter hurdles, running a time of 9.89 to finish third and earn All Conference.

For the Viking men, Orin Rambow took third in the 800, earning All Conference with his time of 2:00.13. Lenzel Koskela posted a pair of strong races as well. He took third in the 400 and earned All Conference with a time of 51.2 seconds. He also ran his two best times of the season in the 60 meter dash prelims and finals. His finals time of 7.17 seconds was good for fourth amongst a strong field of runners.

Joshua Lawyer also had a fourth for the Vikings with a throw of 12.44 meters (40-9 3/4) in the men's shot put.

Up next: Geisler will compete at the NSAA Indoor Championships, March 2-4. The rest of the Vikings will prep for outdoor season which will begin in late March.
