The Valley City State University baseball and softball teams make their annual trips to Tucson, Ariz., this week to start their spring break schedules.
The Viking baseball team will play 10 varsity games on the trip from March 9-16. VCSU opens with games on Thursday against Waldorf University and Concordia University.
Valley City State is coming off a pair of losses Wednesday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. The Vikings lost to Saint John's University – an NCAA Division III school – 9-3 in the first game of a doubleheader. Game two went extra innings before the Vikings fell 2-1.
VCSU brings a 1-10 overall record to Tucson. The Vikings will play seven games against NAIA schools, two against NCAA Division III schools, and one game against a NCAA Division II team. VCSU will also play a handful of junior varsity games while in Tucson.
The Valley City State softball team will also be in Tucson, playing games from March 11-18. The Vikings are set to play 14 games over their 8-day stay in Tucson. The 14 games include 12 against NAIA opponents and two games against NCAA Division II schools.
VCSU (7-7, 3-3 NSAA) is coming off a 3-3 weekend at the NSAA Crossover in Aberdeen, S.D. VCSU swept a doubleheader from Viterbo University, split two games with Bellevue, and lost both games against Waldorf University.
The softball team opens its spring trip Saturday with games against University of Saint Francis and Judson University.
