TUCSON, ARIZ. The Valley City State baseball team fell to the No. 21-ranked team in the country Tuesday night, dropping a 15-3 contest against Westmont College (Calif.).

Westmont pounded out 17 hits against the Vikings en route to the victory in Tucson, Ariz.

VCSU drops to 5-13 overall. The Vikings are 4-3 on their trip to Tucson. Westmont College improves to 14-7 overall.

Westmont took an early lead Tuesday night, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning. Westmont finished with 15 runs on 17 hits. VCSU plated its three runs on five hits. Both teams committed one error.

Jared Meiklejohn had two hits for VCSU. Brady Anderson, Nate Bagby and Emmanuel Leyva each had one hit.

Jacob VanVacter took the loss for VCSU after working five innings on the mound. VanVacter allowed nine hits and seven runs. He walked two and struck out one.

Up next: VCSU continues its trip with a pair of games Wednesday against Benedictine-Mesa. The doubleheader starts at 2 p.m. central time.
