The Valley City State baseball team will be the No. 3 seed for the NSAA Postseason Tournament after finishing the regular season with an 18-6 conference record.

The Vikings ended their conference schedule by dropping both games of a doubleheader at Jamestown on Sunday, 5-4 and 12-2.

VCSU ends the conference season with an 18-6 record. The Vikings finished one game behind Mayville State and one game ahead of Jamestown. Valley City State will play No. 6 Viterbo University in the first round of the conference tournament at 4 p.m. on May 5 in Valley City.

Valley City and Jamestown will combine to host the North Star Athletic Association Tournament from May 5-8. Both sites will host games May 5-6, and Valley City will host the final two days of games.

Tournament Bracket

Up next: VCSU (25-23, 18-6 NSAA) will close out the regular season with a non-conference game Tuesday at North Dakota State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.

Jamestown 5, VCSU 4
A ninth-inning rally fell short for VCSU as the Vikings left the tying run on third base to end game one. Trailing 5-3 entering the top of the ninth, VCSU scored one run on an RBI single from Grant Wehseler. But VCSU grounded into a double play to stifle the rally and eventually left the tying run on third base.

Wehseler led the Viking offense with a 2-for-3 game, hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning and driving in three runs. Ben Bruenjes added two hits and Brady Anderson hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning.

Jordon Roos started on the mound for VCSU and took the loss after going 5 2/3 innings. He gave up eight hits and five runs, walked two and struck out one. Shaun Kourajian pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Jamestown 12, VCSU 2
Jamestown completed the doubleheader sweep with a 12-2 win in game two, scoring in each of the first six innings en route to the victory.

The Jimmies racked up 12 hits and 12 runs. VCSU scored its two runs on six hits.

Joe Demers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run for the Viking offense. Steven Velarde started on the mound and took the loss after giving up six hits and four earned runs in three innings. Billy Callahan, Thomas Lindgren and Jesse Johnson all pitched an inning in relief.
