Track & Field - Sat, May 6, 2017

The Valley City State track & field team racked up an individual meet title and 10 Top 5 finishes on Saturday at the Ron Masanz Classic in Moorhead, Minn. It was VCSU's final meet before the NSAA Championships on Thursday and Friday in Jamestown.

Seri Geisler won the women's javelin by more than 25 feet with her winning throw of 49.91 meters. It was the second farthest throw in the facilities history, trailing only her record throw from last season. Geisler also posted a strong double with a third-place finish in the women's shot put. Her win in the javelin was her fifth javelin title of the spring season.

On the men's side, Garrett Roemmich also doubled up on Top 5 finishes in the throwing events for VCSU. The freshman placed second in the discus with a throw of 40.16 meters and placed third in javelin with his toss of 50.94 meters.

Ellwood Ellenson added a fifth-place in men's javelin. Joshua Lawyer had a career-best mark of 12.90 meters in the men's shot put, which earned him fourth place. Brady Morden jumped 5.66 meters in the long jump to place third, and Carson Aune added a Top 5 after placing fifth in the men's discus.

For the Viking women, Mackenzie Huber recorded a throw of 12.68 meters in the women's shot put as she placed second overall out of 14 throwers. Kaitlin Connor jumped 10.69 meters in the triple jump to place third.
