Valley City State University women's golfers Hannah Gress and Haley Christofferson have been named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the national office announced Thursday.

The pair of Viking golfers earned the honor that recognizes continued success of collegiate athletes in the classroom. In order to be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher during their college career.

Christofferson, a senior from Lisbon, N.D., is studying physical education at VCSU.

Gress, a junior from Fargo, N.D., is pursuing a degree in music education while at VCSU.

Christofferson and Gress are two of just 174 NAIA women's golfers nationwide to earn the Scholar-Athlete honor this season.
