A pair of Valley City State University track & field athletes have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the national office announced Friday afternoon.

VCSU seniors Niklas Ernst and Alex Askerooth both earned the award that recognizes continued success of collegiate athletes in the classroom. In order to be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher during their college career.

The track & field honor encompasses all athletes who competed either during the indoor or outdoor season.

Ernst, a senior from Kronshagen, Germany, is studying social science while at VCSU.

Askerooth, a native of Cayuga, N.D., is pursuing a degree in biology education at VCSU.
