The Valley City State University baseball team had six of its athletes named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the national office announced Thursday.

Seniors Jared Meiklejohn, Mitch Scheer and Nate Bagby earned the honor, along with juniors Jordon Roos, Andrew Hirsch and Tyler Ukestad.

The Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award recognizes continued success of collegiate athletes in the classroom. In order to be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher during their college career.

The six Vikings earning the honor is the most in VCSU baseball program history.
