Valley City State University national champion Seri Geisler is competing in Sacramento, Calif., this week at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships.

Geisler will be competing in the women's javelin, where she won her second straight NAIA national title last month with a mark of 52.68 meters. That career-best throw ranks her 11th in the field of professional and collegiate throwers competing this week for the title of best javelin thrower in the country.

A total of 17 athletes will compete in the women's javelin, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. Pacific/7 p.m. Central on Thursday.

"For Seri, this competition is truly a culmination of all that she has accomplished during her time here at VCSU," said Chris Johnson, VCSU track & field head coach. "Regardless of the outcome in this meet, she has proven herself to be one of the very best women's javelin throwers in the United States. I could not be more proud of the growth she has made since she first started throwing the javelin last year. This is only the beginning for her."

Geisler will be among elite company in Sacramento, competing against professional throwers and top collegiate throwers from the likes of LSU, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Minnesota and North Dakota State University. The favorite to win the event is American record holder Kara Winger, who has won the USATF national title six times since 2008.
