SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – Seri Geisler placed 10th in women's javelin at the USA Track & Field 2017 Outdoor Championships on Thursday.

Geisler, who won the last two NAIA national titles while at VCSU, recorded a top throw of 48.51 meters as she finished 10th out of 17 throwers at the national championships. Geisler was two spots and about 7 feet away from qualifying for finals. She was seeded 11th entering the meet.

The throwers battled sweltering heat during the competition Thursday. Kara Winger, the American record holder, blew away the rest of the field with her top throw of 62.80 meters. The field included professional athletes along with the top college throwers in the country, including athletes from LSU, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Minnesota and North Dakota State.

"What a way to cap off an incredible year for Seri," said VCSU coach Chris Johnson. "She can now call herself a Top 10 javelin thrower in the entire United States. Seri has shown that she will be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come. I'm proud of all that she has accomplished while at VCSU and how much effort she has put in to get to this point. As her coach, I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her."

Geisler ends her VCSU career with two NAIA national titles in women's javelin and three school records in javelin and shot put. She plans to transfer to Arizona State this summer and compete at the NCAA Division I level for the next two seasons.
