Valley City State University women's basketball coach Jill DeVries announced today that Jordan Skaar has been hired as the lead assistant coach for the 2017-18 season.

Skaar joins the Viking staff after two seasons as an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse women's basketball program – an NCAA Division III school. He was heavily involved in most aspects of the program and helped the Eagles to a 16-11 record last season.

"We are excited to have Jordan join our women's basketball staff at VCSU," said DeVries. "He has a passion for teaching and recruiting and has experience as both an assistant coach and a head coach. With his connections, we believe Jordan can expand our recruiting base into Wisconsin and Iowa. He will be a great fit for our program and our campus community."

A native of Trempealeau, Wis., Skaar graduated from the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in 2009 with a degree in health and wellness recreation. He worked five seasons as an assistant girls basketball coach at Bangor High School (Wis.) before joining the Wisconsin-LaCrosse staff in 2015.

Jordan was a pitcher for the University of Dubuque baseball team throughout his college career. Along with his job at Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Skaar worked as head baseball coach the past two seasons at Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School (Wis.) and taught private pitching lessons.

Skaar replaces Courtney Titus, a VCSU alumna who held the assistant coach position last year. Titus was recently hired as an assistant attorney general for the state of North Dakota.

VCSU is coming off a 24-9 overall record last season and the program's fourth appearance at the NAIA National Tournament. The Vikings are set to open the 2017-18 women's basketball season on Oct. 28, hosting College of Saint Mary.
