The Valley City State volleyball team dropped a five-set match in its conference opener Saturday, falling on the road at Presentation College.

The Vikings held a 2-1 lead, and had two match points in the fourth set, but couldn't hold off the hard-charging Saints who won set four 27-25 and clinched the match with a 15-8 win in the final set. VCSU led 24-22 in the fourth set but the Saints scored five of the next six points to win the set in comeback fashion, carrying that momentum into the final set.

Valley City State drops to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Presentation College improves to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the NSAA.

Clarissa Olson had a big match with 18 kills to lead the Viking attached. The returning all-conference junior hit .457 and added three block assists. Polette Medina tallied a season-high 17 kills and posted 17 digs in the match, and freshman Paige Benson also posted a season-high with 14 kills. Autumn Johnson added nine kills and four block assists.

Leah Ruter had 49 assists, 15 digs and three services aces for the Vikings. Hailie Wilds also served up three aces and dug a team-high 20 balls.

The teams were fairly even throughout the match as VCSU hit .184 and Presentation hit .186.

Olivia Stet posted 18 kills and Kayla Wolfe had 17 for the Saints. Joely Roe led the Saint defense with 45 digs.
