JAMESTOWN – Emmanuel Leyva hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the fourth inning Wednesday night, but that's about all the offense the Viking baseball team could generate as they dropped a 15-3 contest at University of Jamestown.

Leyva's blast over the right-field fence put the Vikings up 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning. The score would remain that way until the Jimmies erupted for eight two-out runs in the fifth inning to take control of the contest.

Valley City State University drops to 1-1 this season. Jamestown moves to 1-0.

Junior right-hander Shaun Kourajian gave the Vikings four strong innings on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run during his start. Freshman Tyler Kliniske came on in the fifth inning and took the loss. All of Jamestown's eight runs in the inning came with two outs, and all were unearned due to an error early in the inning.

VCSU scored its three runs on eight hits. The Vikings committed three errors. Brady Smith and Leyva each had a pair of hits, and Leyva drove in all three runs. Grant Wehseler, Ryan Sand, Alejandro Gutierrez and Phillip Dimas all had a hit as well.

Jamestown scored its 15 runs on 15 hits and did not commit an error.

Up next: Valley City State was originally schedule to play in the NSAA-GPAC Crossover in Fargo this weekend, but those games have been cancelled. VCSU is exploring options to potentially play a home game against someone on Saturday.
