It's a busy weekend for Viking athletics as the VCSU football, volleyball and cross country teams are all in action over the next two days.

Football
Valley City State University will travel to Dickinson State University for a conference game Saturday. It is a rematch from the season opener, which Dickinson State won 30-21 in Valley City.

VCSU enters the game with a 2-3 overall record and a 1-2 conference mark. Dickinson State is ranked No. 21 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll and has a 4-1 overall record and a 3-0 conference record.

VCSU is coming off a 39-35 loss at Waldorf University, while the Blue Hawks earned a 40-17 win over Presentation College last week.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. MT/3 p.m. CT in Dickinson. Valley City's radio station, KOVC 1490-AM, will have live coverage of the game. The radio broadcast can also be streamed online at www.newsdakota.com.

Volleyball
After defeating Mayville State on the road Wednesday, the Vikings are back home for a pair of conference matches this weekend.

VCSU hosts Dickinson State (4-10, 3-3 NSAA) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Vikings then host rival University of Jamestown (12-6, 5-1 NSAA) on Saturday at 3 p.m. Jamestown is ranked No. 20 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

The VCSU Century Club will host volleyball tailgating prior to Saturday's match. A free-will meal will be offered before the match starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Pedersen Gazebo next to Graichen Gym.

Valley City State is now  9-8 overall this season and 3-3 in the North Star Athletic Association. It's the first time the Vikings have been over .500 this season and the first time they've had a winning record this late in a season since 2009. Since starting the year 0-4, the Vikings have posted a 9-4 record in their last 13 matches. VCSU is now tied with Presentation College for fourth place in the NSAA standings.

Cross Country
Valley City State's cross country team is in action Friday afternoon with the Jimmie Invitational at Parkhurst Cross Country Course just outside of Jamestown.

The men's race starts at 4 p.m., with the women's to follow at 4:45 p.m.

The Parkhurst course will also be the site of this year's NSAA Championships on Nov. 3. Dickinson State and University of Jamestown will also run the meet Friday, giving the Vikings a good look at two of their conference opponents prior to the NSAA Championships.
