VCSU sophomore Taylor Sharp had 10 kills and served up four aces Friday night, helping the Viking volleyball team to a sweep over Dickinson State.

Sharp served out the first set with three straight aces as the Vikings won the North Star Athletic Association conference match by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19.

VCSU improves to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The Vikings have now won three matches in a row and are 10-4 over their last 14 matches. On their home floor, the Vikings are 3-1 this season. Dickinson State drops to 4-11 overall and 2-5 in the North Star Athletic Association.

With the win, the Vikings move into sole possession of fourth place in the NSAA standings. VCSU moved past Presentation College, which lost to Waldorf University on Friday night.

In Valley City on Friday, the first set wasn't pretty from either side as VCSU hit just .029 and Dickinson hit just .133. Leading 21-19, the Vikings got a kill from Megan Johnson and then Sharp took care of the rest with three straight aces to win the set and bring a roar from the home crowd.

In set two, Dickinson held an early 8-7 lead before VCSU scored the next four points to go ahead for good. The Blue Hawks hung tough and a kill by Brianna Holland staved off VCSU's first set point and brought the Hawks to within 24-23. The Vikings had the answer though with Sharp putting the match away on a kill assisted by Leah Ruter.

Set three belonged to the Vikings from the start as they trailed just once at 1-0, and hit .297 in the set with 16 kills and five errors.

Sharp and Clarissa Olson each had 10 kills in the match for VCSU and four other Vikings recorded five kills each. Leah Ruter posted 23 assists and seven digs from the setter position, and Hailie Wilds led the defense with 10 digs.

VCSU hit .217 as a team and had six team blocks. VCSU served nine aces but committed 14 errors at the serving line.

Dickinson State hit .101 in the match, led by seven kills by Kylie Hadley. Keera Stookey had nine assists and seven digs. Shaylee Singleton recorded 13 digs from the libero position. The Blue Hawks had five team blocks, served three aces and had just five errors at the serving line.

Up next: Valley City State (10-8, 4-3 NSAA) hosts rival University of Jamestown on Saturday at 3 p.m. The VCSU Booster Board will be hosting tailgating starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Pedersen Gazebo near Graichen Gym.
