Michael Mook is entering his second season as head softball coach for VCSU.
Mook made a splash during his first season at VCSU, leading the Vikings to a school-record 40 wins during the 2016 campaign. The Vikings went 40-13 overall, 17-5 in conference play and took second in the NSAA. VCSU finished the year receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
The 2016 Vikings broke eight team offensive records and five individual records. Five Vikings were named All Conference and six earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors. Both Cejay Hilhorst and Katie Cameron were named 2nd Team All American after record-breaking senior seasons.
A native of Boscobel, Wis., Mook worked the previous six years as the top assistant coach for Gretta Melsted at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. He worked primarily with pitchers. During his time at Augustana, pitchers earned several NCAA All American awards and the team made six straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
From 2005 to 2008, Mook was head softball coach at Hastings High School (Minn.). Prior to joining the Augustana staff, Mook worked one year as an assistant coach for the University of Chicago-Illinois. He also was a co-head coach of the Minnesota Blizzard traveling team that recorded a 35-6 record and qualified for the USA/ASA National Tournament in 2008.
Mook graduated from Winona State University in 2007 with a physics degree.
