Director for Sports Information

Mark Potts is in his fourth year as Director for Sports Information at Valley City State University.

After working in local media for five years, Potts was hired in June 2013 as the VCSU sports information director/media communications specialist. He currently oversees the athletic department website and social media, does photography and videography, and oversees other areas related to athletic publicity. Outside of the athletic department Potts also works for VCSU's marketing department where he assists with video production and photography.

Prior to joining the VCSU staff, Potts worked for 19 months at Ingstad Family Media radio stations in Jamestown and Valley City. He first worked as news director for the Jamestown office, and most recently was sports director of the Valley City office, where he did play-by-play coverage for VCSU and Valley City High School sports during the 2012-13 school year. He also hosted a daily three-hour radio show on KOVC 1490-AM, featuring news, sports and local information.

Before working in radio, Potts was sports editor of the Valley City Times Record for more than three years, covering local sports stories for the paper and serving as the sports photographer.

Potts graduated from North Dakota State University in May 2008 with a bachelor's degree in journalism, broadcast and mass communication technologies. He began his media career as a news reporter for the Williston Herald before joining the Times-Record staff in July, 2008.

A native of Verona, N.D., Potts now resides in Valley City with his wife, Cora, and their children, Thomas and Elaina.
